Silvery Records present Si Hayden's 24th album 'H-Division' 10 original rock instrumentals with Ben Haines on drums and Adam Holt on Bass. This is something quite different from the Joe O'Donnell guitarist of Flamenco and Celtic roots.

No bombast despite the H-Factor, a killer instrumental threesome exploring the most ethereal corners of rock idiom.
Never the one to slow down his pace - which doesn't make the man a shredder, - Hayden closely follows 2011's "Supercharger", which found the British axeman on his own, with this album set up for a trio format. Surely, the criterion for inviting bassist Adam Holt and drummer Ben Haines to the party wasn't their surnames' first letter, as there's a telepathic sympathy in the ten tracks that - save, perhaps, for the sharply focused rage of enchanting "Altitude" (shouldn't it be "Attitude"?) - can be only loosely described as "rock" only because a shadow of fusion hangs over the proceedings and peaks familiarly in "Light-Com".
Once the heavy riff of opener "Escape" gives way to notes that flutter rather than flurry over the brooding groove, a sunny vista is invoked into which "Vorcenellaraptorai" shoots a flamenco-tinctured twang. In "Azimodal Equinox", though, such a spank lies in a bass domain as the guitar steps behind the rhythm to color the gritty jive, but "Aperphelion" offers the listener a blissful electric flight across the acoustically rippling sky. Higher and higher, when it comes to "Zodiacal Apparition" the sensual soaring is somewhat undercut by the piece's motorik engine: kosmische musik it ain't, and here's the momentum gets lost, until "One Way" invites Hayden's harmonic riffola back. Powerful and imaginative work."

Formed in London in 2004, illkinski are electronica duo Adam Perry & Arash Lowni.Influenced by the music of Apparat, Four Tet, Matmos & Boards of Canada, they spent thefirst 3 years writing and producing an extensive catalogue, remixing, and staging someelectrifying live performances.
In 2005 they came first in an Ableton worldwide remix competition judged by Coldcut; andwon a BBC Radio competition for their song 'Buttonpushers'.
In the same year they were awarded a grant by the PRS Foundation, and went on to playlive on the same bill as Plaid (Warp Records).
In August 2007 they released their debut full-length album "Let’s Zoom In" with SilveryRecords.

Starting as a pianist in jazz and blues bands Adrian took up bass under the influence of Cream. He worked around London’s music scene in many different bands, spanning jazz orchestras and small groups, blues and progressive rock. Steve started guitar and harmonica in Sheffield playing tunes by Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke, Muddy Waters, BB King, and Sonny Boy Williamson among others.

SilveryRecords introduce the delectable sound of Interplay, a jazz delight! Welcome to the first offering by INTERPLAY, the band founded in 2007 by bassist and composer Adrian Litvinoff. The sounds on this album reflect the band’s development on the road, shaped by experimenting, taking risks and putting the audience at the centre of everything it does.
Adrian’s tunes are evocative and warm, connecting with emotions and experiences, memorable rather than abstract. Drawing from their immersion in many musical genres he and the band explore all sorts of textures and sounds not always associated with contemporary jazz, to delight the ear and create ‘the sound of surprise’.
The guys in the band are all well known players in the region – and the album shows just why. Richard Baker is a fine trombonist. If he’s not a virtuoso yet he soon will be! His classically-honed technique is put to awesome and expressive use in ‘Faces and Places’ and ‘Grey Day at Gorey’. He tears it up big-time on ‘Boogie Stop Shuffle’, while his solo on ‘Ode to Duke’ perfectly mirrors the mood and delivery of the lyric by Andra Sparks. Alan Wakeman on soprano and tenor saxes brings something wild and free to the ensemble that is always grounded in musicality and emotional honesty. His solos on ‘Hang Around’ and ‘Island’ are both outstanding, as is his rendition of ‘Rising on Thermals’. Neil Hunter is a gifted and creative pianist, and energy just seems to flow through him. At times reflective and tender, at others driving and exuberant, he is a great accompanist as well as soloist. His poignant opening to ‘Hang Around’ perfectly sets the scene for what follows, while his inspired excursions on ‘Boogie Stop Shuffle’ and ‘After You Stu’ are other highlights. Adrian Litvinoff is a bassist whose playing style has been shaped by his instinct as a composer. Always searching for the melodic complement to the other players, his lines climb and fall in response to the music, even when holding down a groove. Enjoy his accompaniment on ‘Faces and Places’ and ‘Step Lightly’ as well as his solos on ‘Grey Day’ and ‘Island’. Dave Balen on drums and percussion brings a history of musical exploration and immersion in many genres including Indian music. His approach to music (and to life) makes him an unselfish accompanist as well as a highly creative soloist – hear his multi-layered contribution to ‘Grey Day’ or the extraordinary percussion accompanying the bass solo in ‘Island’. Andra Sparks joins us for two numbers on the album. Andra’s voice is bell-like, clear and suffused with warmth, and she really knows how to get inside a lyric! Her contributions to ‘Hang Around’ and ‘Ode to Duke’ add freshness and polish to these numbers and enrich the album as a whole. Coventry based songwriter Wes Finch has produced a small masterpiece with this record. It is fair to say that he has been helped in no small way by the 14 other musicians that have contributed their talents to it and especially the production skills of Paul Hartry. This record has warmth flowing through it. Finch has a voice that is hard to place. There is a twang to his vocals, kind of like The Kooks Luke Pritchard doing a Ryan Adams impersonation, but unmistakably English. The voice suits perfectly the folk/pop that is Finch's stock and trade. Opening with the short and teasing Wooden Hill, we get a glimpse of delights to come. Air, Land & Sea is one of the most beautiful songs that I have heard in many a year. It builds and falls with faultless grace and had me reaching for the repeat button more than once. Both Aint We The Lucky Ones? and Jack To Do arrive like long lost friends, open armed, smiling and comfortingly familiar. I say familiar as many of the tracks on here have the feeling that you have heard them before. It's not because they sound particularly like anyone else, but rather because they are instantly likable. This is an album that works from the first play. A special mention has to be given to The New Waltz where an anthemic version of Mickey Newbury's An American Trilogy is incorporated into the chorus. An unexpected surprise that works a treat. This is a well crafted album from an obviously talented artist who deserves to be heard. Move over Ryan Adams & co, there's a new kid in town.(The Music Critic ~ Sunday, 24 January 2010)

"They're a rare breed, great poets crossing over to music, and with only a couple of names springing to mind, Jonathan Morley, an Eric Gregory Award winner who researches T. S. Elliot's stamp over Carribean literature at the University of Warwick, stands closer to Gil Scott-Heron rather than Leonard Cohen. His lines chime with jive, so Morley teams up with guitarist and composer Si Hayden and drummer Ben Haines to deliver them in style. Cue this album, a companion piece to "Backra Man" the book (note the singular as opposed to the plural in the record's title), a jazzy experience which starts creepingly with Hayden's piano rippling over Haines' shadowy cymbals and Morley's gloomy voice reciting strange images.
It resonates on many levels when the "Da Da dada dada" sets alliteration apace in "For Lee Miller", spanky bass brings funk into the "Loki's song" Gothic texture, and baroque country picking paints the "grass glares white" picture of "Spon". The music feels as strange as the poems but one fits the other perfectly. "Backra" means the evil white man, and this fusion of poetry and sparse melodies seems sinister indeed, yet it's not aggressive at all, save for the Rasta talk of "Sistah" that sounds melodius even without ragged accompaniment, whereas the "Duskfall" lace is pure elegance and "Iberian Baroque" gently takes a listener on an Indiana Jone-like adventure to the Indian pyramids. Joe O'Donnell's Shkayla 'Celtic Cargo' (2008)

Joe O’Donnell first made a name for himself as a doyen of the electric fiddle on the Seventies Irish rock scene alongside the likes of Rory Gallagher, and the rock ethic is still predominant in his playing, so I don’t think he’ll mind if I say this CD is not for purists. The musicians in his band come from jazz or rock rather than folk backgrounds, and what O’Donnell manages to do here with the music of Ireland, Scotland and Brittany is quite extraordinary. There is a nice balance of material, sets of tunes alternating with songs across eleven tracks, and the arrangements give them all room to breathe and give the songs room to tell their stories.
The collection includes a beautifully laid-back reading of P Stands For Paddy. The arrangement is exquisite, with the guitar in full Peter Green-at-his-most-ethereal mode. And O’Donnell sings Farewell To Old Ireland with very conversational phrasing, as though he is actually living the song -- you sense that he knows the song backwards. His fiddle playing is as laid back as his vocal style, but he plays a scorching mandolin. And though he often overdubs the fiddle parts, it’s good that he tends to leave the mandolin sounding quite clean. It’s a highly produced album, but very enjoyable and worthy of repeated listens.
Sean O’Riarda and Rory Gallagher are both acknowledged in the liner notes, clearly inspirational figures in O’Donnell’s life and music, and they are a fair indication of what’s going on here - a meeting of traditions, one old -- one newish. Issue 84/Living Tradition magazine.
